Three gov candidates to back same-sex marriage

As expected, the January 2011 departure of Governor Carcieri -- and Gordon Fox's anticipated move this week into the speakership -- will change the dynamic around long-stalled gay marriage legislation in Rhode Island. Here's further evidence, via Boston-based Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD):

Three declared gubernatorial candidates will pledge their support for marriage equality at a rally convened by Marriage Equality Rhode Island on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

Former Senator Lincoln Chafee, State Attorney General Patrick Lynch, and a representative of Treasurer Frank Caprio will publicly pledge, if elected governor, to sign a marriage equality bill enabling same-sex couples in Rhode Island to marry.

All three will run for governor in [2010], when current governor, marriage equality opponent Donald Carcieri, is termed out of office.

The rally, which will take place in the State House Rotunda, will also feature same-sex couples who want to marry in their home state of Rhode Island.
